Parent Involvement

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Article 14C of the Illinois School Code, 105ILCS 5/14C-10, requires that each Illinois school district establish an advisory committee for the purpose of: providing the maximum practical involvement of parents of children in transitional bilingual education programs; affording parents the opportunity to effectively express their views; and ensuring that such programs are planned, operated and evaluated with the involvement of, and in consultation with, parents of children served by the programs. In CPS, that advisory committee is known as the Chicago Multilingual Parents Council (CMPC) and represents parents of English Language Learners (ELLs) citywide. Locally, schools with State-mandated Transitional Bilingual Programs are required to establish a Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC), which functions as a standing committee of the Local School Council and advises on matters related to the school’s bilingual program.
